Pediatric laryngology

The Pediatric ENT Clinic deals with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diseases of the upper respiratory tract, i.e. diseases of the ears, nose, sinuses, throat and larynx.

The most common indications for a visit to a specialist pediatric laryngologist are:

Nose:

  • runny nose or nasal congestion for more than 2 weeks,
  • snoring at night,
  • sleep apnea,
  • restless sleep,
  • persistent discharge from the nasal passages: serous, mucous, purulent, bloody, unilateral or bilateral,
  • “nasal speech” – nasalization.

Ears:

  • discharge from the ear,/li>
  • hearing impairment (it can be one-sided, which is harder to notice), which is most often manifested by the child’s absent-mindedness, not responding to commands or watching loud television,
  • in younger children frequent rubbing of the ear, and “picking” in the ear,
  • restless sleep.

Oral cavity (pharynx, larynx):

  • recurrent inflammation of the throat, angina,
  • difficulty swallowing, choking,
  • complaints of sore throat, feeling of an object stuck in the throat,
  • cough for more than 3 weeks (so-called “dry” cough which sounds like barking and wet cough),
  • hoarseness or other voice quality disorders,
  • shortness of breath,
  • lack of appetite,
  • unpleasant odour from the mouth.

In addition, attention should be paid to symptoms such as various types of speech disorders, which may be an indirect symptom of insidiously developing hearing loss, may also reflect the pathology of the adenoid and/or palatine tonsils, and abnormalities in the structure and mobility of the tongue.

Ambulatory tests/procedures available:

  • peritonsillar abscess incision,
  • paracentesis (incision of the eardrum),
  • ear rinsing,
  • taking a biopsy from the nose, throat with hist-pat examination,
  • sinus punctures,
  • anterior nasal tamponade,
  • removal of a foreign body from the throat, nose or ear,
  • dressing change with wound cleaning,
  • endoscopy – videoscopy,
  • microbiological tests – swabs from the nose, throat, larynx,
